Guide to In-home Sessions | Tom + Mariah

There's something undeniably special about home. It's a place full of memories and everyday moments. In home sessions truly are so unique - they capture life in a setting that's authentically you.

Tom & Mariah have documented all big moments in their home - pregnancies, pets, new babies, birthdays, and celebrations. I can’t wait for them to look back on all these galleries 40 years from now and see how their family, home, and lives changed and how we captured it all!

Here are some favorites from their most recent session and some tips for doing a session in your own home.

Why do an in home session?

Comfort and Authenticity

In-home sessions provide a comfortable environment where you and your partner can relax and be yourselves. There’s no need to pose or act differently; you can enjoy your favorite activities together, whether it’s cooking breakfast, playing with your pets, or hanging out on the couch. This setting allows for more natural interactions, resulting in photos that truly reflect you.

Personal Touch

Your home is filled with personal touches that tell your story. From the artwork on the walls to the cozy corners and favorite books, every detail adds to the narrative of your life. It’s a way to document not just how you look, but how you live and love.

Capturing Everyday Moments

In-home sessions shine a spotlight on the beauty of everyday life. The morning routines, the laughter in the kitchen, the quiet moments on the sofa—these are the memories that often mean the most. By capturing these candid moments, you create a visual diary of your life at home. We’re so quick to document big moments, but the in-betweens are just as special.

Perfect for All Life Stages

Whether you're celebrating your engagement, expecting a new baby, or just wanting to document your day-to-day life together, in-home sessions are perfect for all stages of your journey. They offer a timeless way to capture your love story, creating keepsakes that you’ll love for years to come.

Tom and Mariah did three distinct looks during their session. They have a large patio door/window wall with white curtains that we always use as a simple, airy backdrop for more traditional portraits. We also went into their backyard and shot some very summery, film inspired frames. And lastly we used their deck for some pinteresty “look how cool my parents were” photos at the end of their session.

I highly recommend looking at every corner of your home and seeing what magic we could create! In the past we’ve used their kitchen, bedrooms, living room, entryway, and front porch area to shoot different things and all of them have been so special.

Do you have a large window? We can set up colored backdrops or use large plain walls for a studio inspired set up. Do you have a big yard? We can use any trees and flowers for a more natural look. Do you have an impeccably styled living room or bedroom? Let’s capture you in there.

In home sessions are my jam. Ready to book one?
