Utah Wedding Photographer’s Guide to Studio Sessions

We are so lucky that Utah has such a fun and extensive variety of location possibilities for sessions and weddings. Amidst all the options, I am here to present to you: Studio Sessions.

Studio sessions offer an unparalleled opportunity for classic & minimal photos that really let you and your partner be the focus. Or, you can totally deck out a studio and create your own dreamy styled setup. Here are all of my favorite studios, tips & tricks, and examples all in one place for you to reference.

Why Choose a Studio for Your Session?

Control over environment

Weather: In a studio, you don't have to worry about rain, wind, or extreme temperatures affecting your session. No need to reschedule due to weather conditions.
Lighting: Studio lighting is consistent and controllable, allowing for perfect lighting conditions regardless of the time of day. We don’t have to schedule around the sunrise/sunset.

Creative Flexibility

Backgrounds and Props: Studios offer a variety of backdrops and props that can be easily switched out, providing more creative options for your photos.
Personalization: You can personalize the studio setup to reflect your personality and relationship, making the session truly unique to you.

Privacy & Convenience

Focus: A studio provides a private setting, making it easier to relax and be yourselves without onlookers or interruptions. With fewer distractions, the focus remains on you and your partner.
Facilities: Studios have facilities like changing rooms, restrooms, and places to touch up hair and makeup. Studios are more centrally located than a lot of outdoor locations. (No driving to the top of a mountain and changing in the car!)

Backdrops

Most studios have simple white walls to shoot on along with some other interesting architectural features or backdrop set ups. Colored paper backdrops can be such a fun way to really personalize your studio session. Choose your favorite bold color, a color within your wedding color palette, or something that really sets the vibe of the shoot. There are so many local shops that sell hundreds of options for paper backdrops (ie pictureline.com) or we can order one online. Small rolls can be as little as $35 and I love the versatility that they offer us during a shoot.
